A daffodil lifts its sunlit face,

certain the world is ready to warm.
Nearby, the winter rose hesitates—
its red veins still remembering frost,
its new green tentative, tender with doubt.
Between them, white hyacinth breathes softly,
an echo of snow
carried into the season’s first sigh.
Everything here is both beginning and recall,
each petal a boundary crossed—
warmth arguing gently with what remains cold.
In the garden, nothing is simple:
life unfolds in layered time,
each color a memory of another.
