This week, Rolls-Royce has unveiled a Ghost that turns its cabin into the heavens — 1,132 stars, a diamond-set clock and seven minutes and 31 seconds of engineered totality.
A SOLAR THEATER
This week, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled one of the most theatrically Bespoke commissions ever to leave Goodwood: the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection. Limited to 25 examples, all reserved by the marque’s most significant clients, it stages a solar eclipse inside the cabin. The name says it — Ékleipsis is Greek for eclipse — and the car’s October debut was timed to the annular solar eclipse visible across the Western Hemisphere on Oct. 14.
SEVEN MINUTES AND 31 SECONDS
The centerpiece is a fully Bespoke animated Starlight Headliner. As the coach doors close and the engine starts, the ‘stars’ darken and a sequence begins that replicates totality — the moment the Moon’s dark silhouette completely obscures the Sun. A circle of 940 ‘stars’ forms, representing the bright corona ringing the lunar silhouette, surrounded by a further 192 illuminating ‘stars’ that recreate the otherworldly sight of stars visible in daylight, which occurs only during a total solar eclipse. The animation runs for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds — the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse — before the full night-sky constellation is restored. The feature took a year to develop, across three complete prototypes built by the Bespoke Collective.

A DIAMOND AT TOTALITY
The theater continues across the fascia, where 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ form an illuminated timeline of a solar eclipse — a piece that took more than 100 hours to design. Set into the Bespoke timepiece is a half-carat diamond, evoking the ‘diamond ring’ effect seen at totality. It is the first time Rolls-Royce has set a gemstone into a clock bezel.

GOLDEN DARKNESS
Outside, the car wears Lyrical Copper, a deep brown metallic infused with powdered copper pigment that shifts from darkness to iridescent brilliance as light moves across it. Mandarin orange — the color of the Sun’s corona — accents the inserts beneath the Pantheon Grille, the hand-painted coachline and the brake calipers. Inside, Mandarin and black perforated leather follows a ‘Panoramic Sunset’ theme, with Mandarin piping even on the door-mounted umbrellas, and illuminated treadplates engraved ‘Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection One Of Twenty-Five.’
UNDERNEATH: BLACK BADGE
Beneath the celestial theater sits the Black Badge Ghost’s 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12, producing 600 PS (592 horsepower) and 900 Nm of torque, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Zero to 100 km/h takes 4.7 seconds.
