Beneath the 43 majors of the companion Fashion Houses guide runs a second fashion industry: the independent houses. Some are a designer, an atelier and a cult. Some — Lemaire, Ganni, Nanushka — have become real businesses without surrendering the name over the door. This guide maps 35 of them across five continents, each with its designer, its owner (the honest part: several are no longer purely independent, and the entries say so), its flagships where they exist, and its signature.
A note on what "boutique" means here. It is a tier, not a size of shop: houses whose centre of gravity is a named designer and a point of view, selling through a handful of doors and the world's directional stockists rather than a global boutique network. Houses graduate out of it — Jacquemus, The Row, Sacai and Dries Van Noten, all named in the brief for this list, already sit in the majors guide and are not repeated here.
Private houses publish almost nothing financial. Where a figure exists (Ganni is the exception that proves the rule), it is printed; where it does not, the entry admits it. That silence is itself the fact about this tier: its currency is standing, not scale.

METHOD, GAPS AND EXCLUSIONS
Boundary with the majors guide: no house appears in both rosters. Dries Van Noten's Puig majority (2018) is stated in the majors guide, in the Puig entry of the Conglomerates guide and in this guide's notes — the three records agree.
Flagship claims are taken from the houses' own store listings as checked in October 2026; houses selling only through stockists have that stated ("stockist-led") rather than a flagship being invented for them.
Excluded by design: pure streetwear labels without a fashion-house structure; bridal specialists (covered by the Weddings guide); and one-season labels — every house here has shown or sold for at least five years.
