Luxury is an industry of names that belong to other names. The coat says Gucci; the group behind it is Kering. The watch says Vacheron Constantin; the owner is Richemont. This guide maps the fourteen groups that own the world's luxury houses — and, for each, tabulates everything it owns, house by house, in the companion brand-roster file (luxury_conglomerate_brands.csv) and in each entry's roster field.
Two entries are deliberate contrasts. Hermès and Chanel are not conglomerates at all: one house each, family-controlled, and between them worth more than most of the groups. They are included because no honest map of luxury ownership can omit the proof that the roll-up is a choice, not a law.
Ownership here means control. Stakes that fall short of it are labelled: Kering's 30 per cent of Valentino is an associate stake with an option path to 2028; Zegna's Tom Ford is a licence, not a brand owned. Where a house changed hands during this guide's preparation — Versace, from Capri to Prada, completed 2 December 2025 — the transaction is recorded in both the seller's and the buyer's roster, so it can be traced from either side.

METHOD, GAPS AND EXCLUSIONS
The roster counts controlled houses, maisons and operating brands named in the groups' own publications, including retail, hospitality and media assets where a group holds them as businesses (LVMH's Sephora, Belmond and press titles). Fragrance and beauty licences held by third parties for a group's brands are not ownership and are excluded, except where the guide expressly marks a licence (Tom Ford/Zegna) because the operating reality requires it.
Cape Mentelle (LVMH) is flagged in the roster: divestment of the Margaret River estate has been reported in the 2020s and the house's current status should be re-verified at the next watch. Shang Xia is recorded as a former Hermès majority, not a current holding.
